Self Portrait - WIP Part 4

Here is my 4th installment of my self portrait. The face is mostly done. I need to do a little touch up work on the mouth, but I am happy with everything else. Even my round pug nose haha! I took this to my art teacher Weds. night and he gave me a couple of pointers on how to finish it. He also coached me on making the eyes a little more realistic. I may have one more WIP before I post the final, but we're getting close! :)

Self Portrait WIP - Part 3

So here is WIP #3 of my self portrait. I have filled in the shading on the left side of the face. I typically use a more blended technicue using a special tool, but I am taking some pointers from my art class and doing more of the blending manually with my pencil. I am using F for the facial tones and a 2b mechanical pencil for some of the darker areas and the eyes. A little eye makeup goes a long way huh? Obviously the right side will be next and then I will touch up the face where needed before moving on to the hair.

Self Portrait - Wip Part 2

Here is the next installment of my latest work in progress. I erased the gridlines on the face and outlined the eyes a bit more. After measuring the eyes, the right eye was a tad off so I had to rework that one slighly. Next I filled in the eyes a bit and sketched out some of the dark areas to use as a guide. Then I used an "F" pencil to lightly lay in the tone. Then I took a cosmetic pad and blended it out. That is where I am now. I will work on the eyes some more and then move on to finish the face and from there I'll start working the neck and hair and save the hat, clothes and background for last.

Self Portrait - WIP Part 1

OK here is the beginning stages of what will be my self portrait. I start with a grid of 1" squares and use a transparent film over my source picture. Then use the squares as a guideline to get the proportions and placement correct. This is the basic sketch of my face. My next step will be to fill in the eyes. First I need to measure them and see if they are right, then I'll use a circle template to fill in the eyes and pupils. Next I will erase the gridlines and start shading.
